AI-Assisted Renderings to Print Ready Artwork for Custom Sublimated Apparel

How do you take a great AI-assisted graphic rendering and turn it into a great piece of actual sublimated apparel?

More and more of our great clients are asking us to print their AI-assisted graphic clothing designs. Often, however, the AI-assisted outputs, while they look great on a screen or phone, are not high enough resolution to print on a full size garment.

When the graphics are printed at the scale necessary to fill a full front, back, or sleeve panel of a fishing shirt, for example, the image falls apart (becoming blurry or pixelated). This is because the resolution of the base design element (the original design file outputted from AI) is simply not high enough resolution to print clearly.

Curve and Pandana's design team specializes in helping clients bring their AI-assisted graphic renderings to fruition.

We rebuild the design at the resolution and format needed to print clearly.

Frequently asked questions about turning AI-assisted graphic renderings into print ready artwork.

Can I bring you a design made with AI (Midjourney, ChatGPT, DALL-E, etc.)?
Yes. We regularly take AI-assisted designs and turn them into artwork that can actually be printed on fabric.

My AI rendering is low-res or rough — is that a problem?
Not necessarily. Our design team can often clean up and rebuild AI-assisted artwork into a print-ready file. How much work that takes depends on the image.

Do I need to send a vector file, or is a PNG okay?
A vector file is always preferable and will print clearly at any scale. But please send a PNG, or whatever your AI tool gave you. We'll tell you what's usable and what needs rework.

Can you match the details from my AI-assisted rendering?
We do our best to stay close to the original — patterns, colors, layout. We recently rebuilt a detailed fish and background design this way. But printing has real limits AI images don't, so some parts may need to be simplified or adjusted.

What's the process?
You send us your design, we review it, and if it needs rework we'll tell you what that involves and what it will cost. We'll send you a proof to review.

Is the process the same for every design?
No. It depends on the image, resolution, complexity, how it's built, and other factors. Our design team looks at each design individually and gives us their evaluation.

Can every AI design be converted?
No. Some designs are too low-res or use effects that don't translate to fabric. If that's the case, we'll tell you plainly and suggest what might work instead.

Will the final print look exactly like my AI rendering?
Probably not exactly. Some adjustments are usually needed to make a design printable. You'll see a proof first, so there won't be surprises.

Is there a cost for this?
Yes. Reworking an AI design into print-ready art is a separate, paid service. Cost depends on the design. Please contact us for a quote. All designs are different, but most AI-assisted graphic re-work costs between $50 and $100.

Why use Curve for this?
We've done a lot of this work already and know where AI designs typically run into trouble with design and printing. We hope AI will increase the resolution of its outputs to make those original files more usable in the first place, but our experience and know-how allows us to effectively convert AI-assisted graphics into printable artwork. If you're starting from an AI-assisted design, we can tell you early what's realistic and what isn't. Feel free to contact us. We're happy to help. Often a phone call is helpful.
